What a small-business website really costs in South Africa (and what drives the price)
The honest answer is “it depends” — but it depends on a short list of things you can control. Rather than quote numbers that will be out of date by next quarter, this guide shows what moves the price so you can compare quotes properly.
What a business website usually includes
- Design and build of the pages (home, about, services, contact and so on).
- A domain name and hosting, including an SSL certificate so the site loads securely.
- A working contact route so enquiries actually reach you.
- Mobile-friendly layout — most of your visitors will arrive on a phone.
- Basic search-engine setup so Google can understand the pages.
- Support for changes and problems after launch.
Five things that move the price
- Number and type of pages. Five clear pages cost less than thirty, and a booking system costs more than a contact form.
- Custom design vs a template. A site designed around your brand takes more work than a template with your logo on it — and looks like it.
- Content. Who writes the words and takes the photos? If you supply them, the price drops; if someone else writes them, it rises.
- Features. Online payments, member areas, bookings and integrations each add scope.
- Ongoing support. Hosting, updates, backups and changes are either bundled or billed separately.
Red flags in a quote
- No written scope. “Website” is not a scope. Pages, features and revisions should be listed.
- Hourly billing with no cap. You can’t budget for it.
- Hosting you can’t move. Ask what happens if you want to leave.
- You don’t own it. The domain, design files and content should be yours.
- Support is “extra” with no price. Get it in writing.
Why fixed-price packages work
For a small business, certainty is worth a lot. DynamoLabs works in three steps — Discover (a short call about your business and what “done” looks like), Design & Build, and Launch & Support (we host it and stay on hand) — and offers three packages: Starter (brand and identity), Growth (website and hosting) and Complete (brand, site and business email on your own domain). Quotes are fixed, support is included, and there is no lock-in.

Frequently asked questions
Should a website quote be fixed-price?
For a small business, yes where possible. A fixed price agreed against a written scope protects you from surprise bills. DynamoLabs quotes fixed prices.
Is hosting included in the price?
It depends on the provider, so ask. With DynamoLabs' Growth package, hosting, SSL and ongoing support are included.
Do I own my website and brand?
You should. Ask in writing before you sign. With DynamoLabs there is no lock-in: you own it.
